Spotlight: Maggie Wilson

Meet Maggie Wilson, the outgoing College of the Liberal Arts‘s Sustainability Council’s Social Media Engagement Lead.

Maggie Wilson is a 2023 Penn State graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and a Sustainability Leadership minor. She is from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and attended the Souderton Area School District. While at Penn State, Wilson maintained social media for a religious student organization and participated in the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). During the spring of her third year, she studied abroad in the Czech Republic and interned at an IBM spin-off company.

Wilson also served as the Social Media Engagement Lead for the College of the Liberal Arts Sustainability Council from August 2022 until September of this year. She had a wonderful experience working alongside Janet Swim and graduate student Rosemary Aviste.

Her favorite part of this role has been the creative freedom. Wilson states, “I followed my sustainability interests and generated social media content accordingly. During my time, I composed posts and newsletter articles about second-hand shopping in State College, public transportation options, and more. I am now happy to hand off my responsibilities to a fellow Bellisario College of Communications student, Amy Young”.

As for her future plans, Wilson has decided to take a gap year and pursue a one-year au pair position. She will care for three children in Luxembourg and travel around Europe in her free time. She is excited about this opportunity to gain more international experience. After this year of discovery, Wilson plans to utilize all she has learned at Penn State in her professional endeavors.
