Research Description

Sibusiwe Dube's research interest lies in language and communication in sustainability and focuses on sustainability that bridges scientific and cultural perspectives. Sustainability arises at the intersection of human and biophysical systems hence inescapably embedded in social contexts. Social contexts involve multiple stakeholders with different needs and sometimes conflicting value systems. Addressing complex issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation requires not only a scientific understanding, but also a consideration of the underlying human values, institutions, and norms that drive unsustainable ways of living and this can be achieved through language and communication, using the language understood by the various stakeholders.
