Research Description

I use experimental and survey research to examine the psychological underpinnings of people’s willingness to engage in personal and collective pro-environmental actions and support policies that affect natural processes and by extension all life. I participate in collaborative efforts with interdisciplinary teams composed of natural scientists, social scientists, and educators from a variety of disciplines that use science communication that involves increasing awareness of the impacts of human actions on natural systems and highlight meaningful (eudemonic) experiences in personal encounters with nature from experiences with native plants in one's yard to time spent in nature while on vacation.

Teaching Description

I teach about why people care (or not) about nature, how to encourage pro-environmental actions at an individual and collective level, and how to correct misinformation about climate change.
