The purpose of this course is to provide graduate students with an overview of social scientific perspectives on risk. The course will cover the major theoretical approaches to risk, examples of research from each paradigm, and applications of the concepts to environmental and health topics. By the end of the course, students should have a better understanding of the complex ways in which people think and talk about risk, as well as how to design messages and campaigns that take those processes into account.
