Research Description

Dr. D. Scott Bennett is the Senior Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of the Liberal Arts, Distinguished Professor of Political Science, and Associate Director of the Correlates of War Project.  He has served as Department Head of the Department of Political Science and as co-chair of Penn State’s Research Computing and Cyber-Infrastructure governance body.

He is the author or co-author of numerous articles about international conflict and is the co-author of The Behavioral Origins of War (University of Michigan Press, 2004).  He is also the author of the EUGene software program, which is widely used by researchers analyzing international conflict data, in particular data on the expected utility of war in dyadic models.  His research interests include using statistical and simulation models to study international conflict, war termination, and insurgency.  Most recently, he has been developing and expanding agent-based simulations of how insurgencies develop.
