My seminars explore selected topics of environmentalism, green energy policies, and civic activism in Germany through both a historic and an eco-linguistic lens. My teaching centers on the premise that humans’ treatment of the environment is influenced by their thoughts, beliefs, ideologies, and world views, which in turn are shaped through language. In the words of Arran Stibbe, “It is through language that the natural world is mentally reduced to objects or resources to be conquered, and it is through language that people can be encouraged to respect and care for the system that supports life.” (Stibbe, 2015, p. 2)
